I visited the National Portrait Gallery yesterday. The plan was to get images of emotionally evocative posture in portraits for a larger body of work that is in progress. I noticed that I wasn’t looking at faces anymore. Once you’ve taken dozens of photos of paintings that are specifically cropped to the upper torso, it’s all you see. I stumbled upon the portraits of the presidents and then took these pictures home to my husband and had some fun trying to identify the president based on the posture, the dress, the style in which it was painted, etc. I thought I would share that experience. Unfortunately, I was kicked out of the gallery before I got a chance to get them all, but I think this is a pretty nice collection.
